I am in the process of having my arches prepared for surgery some time in the near future. I posted in the "Extractions" thread. It appears to me that my upper arch is narrower than my lower arch and if left like that, the upper would mesh lingually with the bottom. Another words, my upper outer molar cusps would sit within the valley of the lower cusps. Is it functionally OK for this to be the case? I have another appointment with my ortho in three weeks and will ask him then but I wonder if he knows and is planning for this? Maybe SARPE will be part of the surgical plan but that hasn't been mentioned for the last 18 months of treatment. Thanks.

SAPRE is used when a lot of widening is required, if only a small amount is required they can widen it during surgery. ( I had SAPRE last September, I still have the appliance in) Plosko (another member) filled me in when I wasn't sure why some have it done in surgery.
