Title: Lower Jaw only x Double Jaw
Post by: peuty on January 28, 2017, 08:36:41 AM
So , I have an Overbite that was compensated with many years of braces , but for aesthetic reasons I decided to have orthognatic surgery ...
I went to the orthodontist and he said that because my overbite was compensated and because my bite already meets perfectly , I would have to remove a tooth to create more space so he could pull my lower jaw forward , but when I went to the surgeon he told me that even by doing that , removing the premolar and decompensating , it wouldnt really change the way I look , and it wouldnt really increase the size of my jaw , and my main concern is that I have almost no distance between my neck and my chin and was hoping that maybe with this surgery would change that ...
So I made some research and discovered that maybe I could advance my lower jaw even more if I had both jaws done . So I went back to my orthodontist and told him that I was considering having double jaw surgery , but he told me that my upper jaw is at a good place so he wouldnt do anything with it , I got really upset because all I want is to have a bigger jaw and chin , specially increase the length between my neck and my chin. But now I dont know what to do , I think that its up to me if I want to have double jaw or lower jaw only but im not sure , and I dont want to go against what the doctor said . What do you guys think? what are the negative points of having both jaws operated ? And do I have to make this decision at the beginning of the treatment or can I wait until my teeth is completely decompensated to decide if I want to have single or double surgery?
Please help me people , im really confused  :-\ :-X
