Title: Anyone have surgical palate expansion?
Post by: metallaces on December 05, 2017, 10:21:59 AM
I haven't met with my maxfac surgeon yet but my orthodontist is on board with the idea of bimax with ccw rotation. I'd like to get a palete expansion done too when I get my jaw surgery so I can have a broader smile (I've got a long narrow face) but I don't know how to bring it up if I don't technically *need* it done. If I tell him that my jaw is too narrow for my tongue to fit comfortably, will he do it?

Anyone had this done?

The palate can only be expanded to match the lower arch, no more. The lower arch cannot be expanded (technically it can, but very few surgeons do it due to the risks).

Just ask and don't fret about 'how to bring it up'.
