Need honest opinion on fixing botched results
« on: January 03, 2016, 07:26:42 AM »
Here I am again, 2.5 years after of my botched upper jaw surgery and ridiculous genio advancement. After a university professor turned his back on me and wouldn't do my complete revision I found another doctor to just reverse my genio. It was an improvement but I believe my problem is more complicated than just my chin.

Things look very abnormal when I smile. My maxilla looks recessed and chin looks very long and square. I hardly even show teeth when I smile. My current ortho is an idiot. She is ready to remove braces but I have teeth that don't touch and lower jaw roots are tilted so much that they aren't even in the bone.

I've had mixed responses from other jaw surgery patients. Some have said nothing is wrong and I'm seeking perfection. Others have said something really does look wrong. A patient of Dr Gunsons showed my before and after pics to him and he said I really need a redo. He even asked if I had a chin implant in, which I don't.

I'm currently 6 months pregnant and trying to figure out if I should pursue another surgery, I am not happy with the results of the jaw surgery and thought the problem was just my chin.

Just looking for an honest opinion so I can make the right choice.

What would you do?

I can't tell what the before problem was by the pics?  I can see in the after your chin looks tilted to the side.  Is that after the genio revision?  Did you have your upper moved forward or back.?  Your before pics to me look like a slight overbite that would need lower jaw advancement.  If you had upper jaw done I can't see why.  I would consult someone like Gunsun that you know he knows his stuff.

I had a slight overbite. Long story short, the surgeon didn't really have a plan even up until the morning of surgery. He impacted my top jaw 3mm and gave me a genio advancement of 7mms. With the genio he cut thru my entire chin and part of my lower jaw straight across all the way back to my last molars. I was told by two surgeons that they've never seen such a thing done. I also found out my top jaw was moved forward a bit and plated on crooked which is now probably why my lower jaw is slanted to the side a little.

Getting to Gunson would be a little hard since he's all the way on the other side of the country. I wouldn't be able to have surgery that far away from home anyways. I would only be getting his opinion which I already know and maybe a surgical plan.

Nope.  Orginal surgeon did nothing to prevent changes to my nose. You can see up into my nostrils now and one nostril is now larger than the other.  I've been told I need a bone graft to just fix what he did to my nose.

I remember when you complained about your primary surgery here.
You still have total numbness in some area ?

By looking at the before photos it seems like 7mm of advancement is ridiculous even to think about.
You had very slight problem, and a surgeon changed something about 7mm... WTF

when it comes to typical corrections on midface or jaw, I would say
3 to 4 mm - minimal change
4 - 6 to 7 mm moderate
7 mm and more   big

I had my genio reversal in Jan 2015. The feeling never came back on the left side of my chin and bottom lip after the first surgery.
Maybe I didn't make it clear that the before pics were before any surgery at all. I didn't post any of the huge genio.
I don't think any female aims to have a tougher face or broad chin.

I admire You. I can't handle such things. I pray for 100% feeling in few months, but I know how low chances I have after quite big post op damage .....
and I'm not 100% convinced that any mini or micro plate does not compress any branch of the nerve
However my affected area is 3x bigger - whole right midface

You do not complain about this issue, so it seems you get used to it -that's really good. You will have normal life..... mother :P

You really do get used to it but I notice it when I start drooling on that side or food is on my lip and I don't realize it. But still I'm not ok with losing the feeling for a surgey that had to be reversed.
