Condylar resorption

How is this diagnosed and is there anything to know that distinguishes it from LFS?

I'm looking at befores/afters and they look a lot like my case.

 is there any relationship between condylar resorption and lfs characteristics?

i read jaw surgery can increase the risk of condylar resorption.
