Are my jaws recessed?
« on: May 03, 2017, 02:38:28 AM »
Hello im new on here. My history is i had an underbite as a kid which was somewhat fixed when i was 13 but i had my braces removed too early so i had an edge to edge and a posterior open bite until now (29). But looking at my ceph are my jaws recessed i feel like they could well be looking at the size of my airways. But my sna angles say 85 degrees and my snb are 82 thats apparently means its protusive so i dont get it. Also i have alot of scleral show can you tell if my infraorbital rims look recessed. I also have a short ramus

Post the tracing

Looks like a steep mandible plane angle but a normal occlusional plane.  If you want to improve your airway bimax advancement with ccw will do it.  If you want to improve your appearance only there are some less invasive options.

The position of the head can open or decrease the airway space. In this ceph i think you do something like a chin tuck, so your airway space decrease compared to your normal head position. Do you have sleep apnea?

It's because you are skeletal Class III with an open bite tendency. You need CCW bimax to close the open bite and open up your airway.

My orthodontist told me my upper jaw was fine and my lower jaw grew too much is this true? So i dont need to touch my maxilla instead work on my mandible?

That makes more sense i dont think its to do with recession of my jaws but the steep mandible angle. I dont have trouble swallowing or sleeping but im constantley tired

Your maxilla is recessed. Your mandible is normal in size, but it's positioned retrognathically because your jaws rotated clockwise, so the mandible is pushed backwards and downwards by the maxilla. CCW bimax is the only (good) way to fix the bite, airway, and face.

I wish i had kept my braces on instead i took them off way early so my back teeth had huge cm gaps and my front teeth met edge to edge also never had the extractions sorted because of this i think its messed up my face i never used to have bulging eyes or sleral show i had prominent cheekbones now there small. It is a combination of bone loss from extractions and not being able to bite on back teeth because of that my muscles was huge i looksed fat its so sad

You have bimax recession and need CCW bimax to fix it and improve your airway.

I'm no expert at all but I'd definitely say that your lower jaw is at least slightly recessed. It's nothing more than average and I've seen tons and tons of women and men with far more recession going on. But it's definitely not a prominent jawline.

What surgery can do for you or not, I can't possibly say as I find it really hard to get solid advice from anyone in here as everyone seems to have very different opinions.

A lot of people in here suffer from mild to severe body dysmorphia and it's impossible to tell as this fact doesn't impact their writing.

I'd only trust a doctor for a final opinion, although I'd make sure to seek out a "max-fac" specialist as the ones who just do braces have no clue what to look for and just want to sell you some retainer or braces solution.
