Being A Jaw Surgery Patient and the FAA
« on: April 05, 2014, 06:28:06 PM »
Looking for insight from fellow pilots.

I'm currently a student pilot (my college area of study). I currently hold a Class 3 Medical Certificate that will come up for renewal around the time I will likely be going under the knife. I'd like to upgrade to a Class 2 medical next time around, as well.

How much will being an orthognatic surgery patient effect my certification? Will I be required to undergo special review? Will there be a mandatory grounding period following surgery? Will it effect my ability to hold a Class 1 medical and ATP certificate some day?

I'm concerned because one of my friends had to have a full medical history review when his ADHD came up. It was a nightmare in terms of both time and money. What are the chances of something like that happening to me?
