Cosmetic Lefort 1 possible?
« on: December 17, 2014, 08:06:35 AM »
Are there any doctors that do this or is it considered unethical? The thing is that my bite has no problems

I had orthodontic work before by maxilla fused which caused severe recession and an extremely flat face. Now at 22 years old, I have profound, premature paranasal hollowing, a rather obscene amount that is not seen in people my age. I believe orthodontics may have contributed to this since my brother, who is very similar to me, has noticeably better maxillary projection.

I've been offered a Le Fort I surgery plan entirely for cosmetical reasons so there are definitely surgeons that are willing to do it if there's a good solution to your problem. I'm guessing your occlusion is good? Depending on how the lower jaw is positioned then it might be possible to move both jaws forwards equally much so that your face fills out a bit more. If the entire midface is recessed then it's going to be hard to fix.

True, but even a lefort 1+ BSSO will improve this marginally. I plan on getting fillers in the midface to create the illusion of some volume. Gotta make do with what you can.

My occlusion is ok, I just have a very flat face, kind of like a Roman profile with the protruding nose and all, but even flatter and more recessed than that.

Paranasal fillers just make the nose look sunken in IMO.

What are the standard prices for lefort 1 and BSSO?

Do you guys have any good leads? I'm interested in finding a good doctor who will do this

It really depends where you are.  American jaw surgery prices are astronomical.

That's true. I am in Canada but I heard Europe has very reasonable prices for this stuff

Well there is Wittenberg in Canada.  He also does implants as well.

He did this guy:

Watching this 2 years ago got me into jaw surgery (previously I had thought that "jaw surgery" is lower jaw setback and that's it.  I had no idea that the maxilla could be operated on and that mine was indeed recessed).

I would investigate European surgeons.  They are more likely to operate for purely aesthetic reasons.  Hell this guy claims to have invented the ante face: http://www.sailerclinic.com/en/home.html
But his prices are obscene, especially given the recent appreciation of the Swiss Franc.

I would consider someone like Zarrinbal in Berlin.  He does chin wings, cheekbone osteotomies, noses besides conventional jaw surgery.  So he's very aesthetically minded.  And German healthcare has prices controls, which makes his prices reasonable.  Spanish and Italian surgeons are probably even cheaper.

Great info. Can't thank you enough. Yes Zarrinbal has a very good rep - I am interest in malar osteotomy with him but I would like to address the lefort 1 with him. I wonder what his cosmetic prices are

You can, many surgeons will do it, it's going to be much harder to get insurance coverage though.

skillsaw: Zarrinbal does not perform full malar osteotomies. I mean he cuts only a part of zygomatic bone, but orbital rim stay recessed afterwards. You have to take this into account. In real malar (zygomatic) osteotomies orbital arrea is also included, but it is not very safe
