How are you paying for your surgery?
« on: April 06, 2015, 09:30:44 AM »
How are you paying for your surgery? Just curious. My insurance won't pay for it, so I'm either taking the money out of my 401K or doing a line of credit on my house.

Combination of insurance and cash. The big item is the hospital charge. Were I not to have coverage, I'd travel to Costa Rica. The surgeon there is very good and the cost is substantially cheaper.

I'm lucky enough to have the surgery covered by insurance but the braces will be on me. I just saved some money, it's one of the reasons I waited quite some time before I started all of this.

My braces are thankfully on monthly payment plan. I think I'll be able to pay the hospital fee from savings, but the surgeon fee is more than I have on hand.

Trimax is 5G's in Canada(surgeon fees), but everything else is covered by OHIP. If I cant find someone here, then im going to the states or europe (paying out of pocket).

I'd be looking at working 2 full-time jobs for a year+ to save for it.

Combination of insurance and savings. I'm somewhat older and have a decent career. It's a lot of money but, well, even a flight attendant can afford a trip to space if that's what she really wants.

I could get Lefort I + BSSO (and SARPE) covered by insurance (you don't have to request insurances in Germany about those surgeries, it's up to the surgeon to decide). I will have to pay for braces though since I probably will not meet the creteria to get it covered. And obv. I'm going to pay for Chin Wing and the Malar Osteotomy.

I saved 7k Euros til now in 1 1/2 years. I'm not going to ask my parents for money, nor did I ever think about that tbh. Even though they would probably give me money, since they're tired to see me depressed.

Combo of insurance and savings. It looks like insurance will pickup pretty much everything other than the surgeons fee(s).

I would NOT touch any retirement assets unless that's your only option. You may be able to get a good rate on a line of credit on your house. That's obviously dependent on many things, but it could be an option especially if you can pay it off relatively quickly.

Is CareCredit offered for stuff like this? I don't know. Several of my friends used it to pay for their boobs and they all had really good things to say. It may be something to look into (I don't know anything about it).

Take care, Ginger.

LoveofScotch, Care Credit is a good idea! I could also apply for a 0% interest credit card before surgery and pay it off as fast as a can.

Been saving for over 5 years now, 100% out of my own pocket.
