Jaw surgery affect on nose
« on: March 05, 2016, 07:28:58 AM »
Can someone tell me what the effect of down grafting the maxilla would likely have on the nose. I would think it would be the opposite of an impaction but nothing is ever safe to assume when it comes to jaw surgery and I can't find much literature on this topic. Also how does maxilla impaction affect the nose area, I did find some writing on this but couldn't quite interpret a lot of the medical terms. I will ask my surgeon next time I have an appointment but it will be in two months time.

My maxilla was brought down 5 mm and forward 9 mm and really didn't have much affect on my nose.  Depends on your own anatomy I would guess.

I never saw any change from lengthening the maxilla itself from the hundreds of before and afters, however as it is usually accompanied by an advancement expect some alar flare, AKA, larger nose/nostrils.
