Overbite surgery genioplasty vs chin implant
« on: May 15, 2016, 08:07:38 PM »
I'm going through with jaw surgery sometime this year to fix my overbite, but I'm wondering whether I should keep my previously installed chin implant or go through with a sliding genioplasty? I like the fullness that the implant provides, given how short and thin my chin bone is. What do you guys think? Keep chin implant or go through with genioplasty?

If you're willing to pay additional money to fund the genioplasty and are okay with possible numbness, I say go for it.  The idea of an implant in my face doesn't sit well with me.  But since it's already there for you and you like it, it may not be worth it to remove it.  Write down a pro/con list and compare.

I wouldn't touch the implant since it's already in there. However, I would make sure the surgeon doesn't plan around it. Ask him to move the jaws where they need to be and if the implant is no longer ideal, revise it with a SG. You might discover that you don't need it at all even after jaw surgery.
