BSSO after chin wing
« on: November 04, 2016, 06:05:17 PM »

I just asked in another thread, but can a BSSO be performed after a chin wing?

agree with Laslo, there is only so much adjustment you can ask of the soft tissues

Although it has been much
discussed, the use of sagittal split ramus osteotomies of the
mandible prevents the lengthening of the posterior facial
height during these maneuvers. The proximal segment of
the mandible (i.e., the condyle and ramus section) remains
essentially neutral, regardless of clockwise or counterclockwise
rotation of the distal aspect of the lower jaw.

i have heard from a Forum member that gunson is able to achieve 3 to 4mm of lower posterior facial height, has anyone else heard about this?

i wonder if there has been any Analysis on which of the various bsso cuts (there are 4 as far as i know) result in the largest increase in width, if any?

sorry to be more precise there are 3 types of cute but for Locations

The Trauner-Obwegeser (TO), Obwegeser (Ob), and Obwegeser-Dal Pont (OD) methods were used for BSSO. In all the FEA simulations, the distal segments were advanced by 5 mm. Each model was fixed by using miniplates. These were applied at four different locations, including along Champy's lines, to give 12 different FEA miniplate fixation methods

i would think not because otherwise you are Messing with the occlusion.

gunson has a way though but i was not able find out how, and even if i did i doubt my doc would be keen for me to give me that Kind of request....
