Is CCW rotation rare?

From reading this forum, it sounds like not many surgeons perform CCW rotation? Or am I misreading?

I assume it is rare but an orthodontist I spoke to in the UK used to also be a maxillofacial surgeon apparently, (but why would she change to become an ortho?) maybe she was just an assistant... anyway, I said that I had my jaws rotated counterclockwise and she said that a lot of jaw surgeons that do the surgery for sleep apnea do that in the UK! I don't know if that's true, maybe she got confused about the way I was describing it but my description didn't leave room for interpretation I clearly said and did the actions with my hands, counter clockwise rotation!

Why would it be rare?

I had it performed by a surgeon in Canada (covered by our healthcare system).

But was your rotation just due to the impaction? I'm sure all jaw surgeons can do impaction.

No. 

Impaction refers to vertical shortening of the maxilla.

CCW rotation refers to rotating entire jaw structure ccw when viewing the right side of the face.  This flattens the angle of the occlusion.  This can be achieved by any combination of posterior maxillary downgrafting (lengthen back of maxilla) and anterior maxillary impaction (shorten front of maxilla).  The BSSO is moved to fit the new position of the maxilla (though that doesn't necessarily mean the BSSO is done second in a bimax case, as some surgeon s do the BSSO first).

How did you manage that. Please let me know I'm from canada too. Were the results any good?

I had a 7 mm overjet which apparently was enough for getting surgery covered by our healthcare. Then I discussed a few aesthetic concerns with my surgery and he decided on CCW rotation.

I was impacted too much though. My upper teeth don't show much anymore.
