How will upper jaw surgery change appearance
« on: June 23, 2017, 06:30:22 PM »
Hi,

I am getting my maxilla widened and advanced about 5 mm each - the details haven't been worked out since I just had my first consult.

I understand advancement will project my midface and make it look less concaved and more 3D.

But in regards to the lateral expansion - will this have any effect on the width of my cheekbones ? Will it make my face look wider?

I hope so because I have a long, narrow face. Length from hairline to chin is 8" (above average) and my inter-zygo width is somewhere between 4.5" to 5" (below average) measuring with a caliper, depending how hard I press down on my cheeks.

Also two more questions.

1) By looking at my x ray does my mandible look normally developed ? Because I thought it seemed slightly underdeveloped in length as well and figured my surgeon would bring that forward to project my lower third more. But his view is that he may even possibly retract it slightly to match the maxilla, but said probably only the maxilla needs work. Which I'm relieved about.

2) is my goinal angle steep enough to benefit from CCW rotation/ impaction ? I don't have a gummy smile , at least above my two front teeth, so he said it may be rather difficult even with a lip lift.

Here's my x ray http://imgur.com/e8rDlZj

You don't look like a CCW case.

I see. Also I have no tooth show when lips are at rest. This prevents me from getting maxillary impaction, as 1 mm at least should show for someone my age.

How is it even possible to have 0 tooth show system rest but have a long mid face. I wonder if I have some genetic condition causing facial tissue sagging...

Philthrum is roughly 20.5 mm measured with caliper

If it's the whole lip length including the vermilion, then it's ok. If it's up to the vermilion, then it's quite long. You could have a lip lift first, then jaw surgery.
