Preparations for surgery abroad?
« on: December 28, 2018, 09:19:09 PM »
Currently in the process of this. Does anyone have any experience they can share or input for this?

It is quite a large task and may take a month for me to do to work out every single thing necessary.

What are your guys thoughts on this process?

What are the actual problems? Book the trip as a normal vacation and go there. If there's any diet you need to follow, check with your doctor so you have all you need.

Depends on where your traveling.
First check if there is an organ that oversees surgeons and centers in case of complications after surgery. (And probably don't get surgery in a third world country away from home).
See if you have to hire a nurse to stay with you overnight. If so, start searching now, since it is expensive.
See if you can find a hotel or apartment not far from the doctor's office.
See if you can find where you can get food during your stay without having to walk/travel too far.
See if there is ice in the hotel/apartment if you need to cool your face. Or perhaps a freezer in your room.
See if you can easily get a cab there and try to find a reliable cab company to ensure you arrive on your doctor's appointments on time.
Ask how long the doc wants you to stay in town and if travels may not increase risk of bleeding/infection and so on.

Where are you undergoing surgery and where are you traveling from?

It would also be easier if you could take someone with you for your travels. Then you wouldn't have to hire a nurse. (Unless you are staying in the surgery center overnight, then of course you don't have to hire a nurse either). And your companion could buy groceries for you, call a cab, etc.
