That doc was an resident, well my previous experience with OMFS residents has been f***king s**t. I actually think the average forum goer on this board is more knowledgable about both the functional & aesthetic aspects of orthognathic surgery than residents even though none of use have ever participated in operating on someone else. Good riddance I've did not do surgery in an teaching hospital & chosen to not do surgery in an teaching hospital anymore.

Then again I've read some pretty f***ked up stuff from patients who went with private surgeons on this board so you still gotta be careful even if the surgeon isn't an resident.

I suppose something similar can be said of orthodontists? I consulted an really skissed & knowledgable orthodontist, well turns out that according to patient reviews on the internet this ortho allows 1st year dental students/orthos that are being trained by him to treat his patients (sometimes when he isn't even there supervising the trainee at the appointment) AND THIS WAS AN PRIVATE PRACTICE WTF

Agreed, I dealt with Dr. Behrman who runs the program at New York Presbyterian Hospital. Once things got confrontational I suddenly realized that, in my opinion, even the lead residents weren't knowledgeable since they were unable to answer any of my questions. I would guess most students will practice the oral part of OMFS.

So what are the Residents lacking on surgery?
I'm potentially having my surgery done at one of the military facilities that is Residency.
Is it fixing the functional problem but not doing certain techniques that would make
a better aesthetic outcome that is the problem?
