This is what I'll say. I've had a ton of consultations. 7 so far just for jaw surgery. Wish to god I had done the same for the orthodontists. Especially since the ortho consults are basically free.
From each of the consults, I learned "something" that helped towards my decision and put a piece of the puzzle together, even though number 4 surgeon is basically the one I will go with, I did a few more just learn a few more things. Some of the later consults just reinforced that surgeon number 4 was the right one because I could compare his thoroughness/results etc.. with the later surgeons. Another thing I will tell you is speaking to actual patients of the surgeon is VERY VERY helpful as well. And then of course, doing your research on sites etc.. like this.
Here's what I don't like, seems that this local surgeon really wants the consultation fee, since she's making you come in. Yes, she probably will tell you what you don't want to hear. But, I'm not sure, if the consult fee is under 100 dollars, I frankly would say do it...but just take the time to ask her as many questions as possible.
But if you're pretty sure these other surgeons are better, and you'll end up going with one of them anyway....then just forget it.
