Title: Should I just get the jaw advancements or should I look into widening too?
Post by: jaw on October 22, 2016, 10:45:50 AM
I know I need jaw advancement for both my lower and upper jaws. However, from the front, it looks narrow too. Should I be looking into getting jaw implants/a custom jawline to widen out my jaw as well? I plan on rhinoplasty and otoplasty after the jaw work is all done.

Your mandible will appear wider when you advance it.

This is a stupid question, but, if I got the advancements and then wanted to widen the jaw would it be an issue doing it after I'm recovered from the first surgery?

Your jaws look fine to be honest. Definitely average, not great not bad. Your face is appears to be fairly wide. The facial hair looks good on you. I reckon aesthetically you would benefit most from a nose job.

Avoid implants at all costs.

You don't think there would be aesthetic gain getting them advanced?

I do want a rhinoplasty, I'm just waiting until after jaw surgery if it does happen.

The width of your jaw is average, I don't really see a problem. If anything, I'd be more concerned with getting a rhinoplasty.

What about just double jaw to move the upper/lower?

Don't understand why anyone would post their pic there: you can expect such insane reactions there. "Too old": just insane.

They were blunt and to the point. I just didn't see the point in getting ALL the surgeries he listed out. I was wondering how much aesthetically I'd benefit from jaw, nose, and ears.

I do look old as heck. I'm 21 and I look like I'm mid-40. At least they were honest. I'm screwed facially without work lol

Also, update: I saw my orthodontist. He said my overbite now can just be fixed with braces since he re-took measurements. He said to get jaw surgery i would need extractions, move my upper teeth/lower teeth back and then go forward. It would take 12-14 months as a rough estimate. He said functionally it wouldn't be much different than braces alone. Just an aesthetic one.

I have two consults for local surgeons set up. Now just wondering what the surgeons will say. But I desperately think I need my jaws fixed.

But I think the consensus around here is to see Gunson for sure? Should I go ahead and contact them to set a consultation?
