Has anyone had an experience with Dr. Robert Marx in Miami or with using BMP to reconstruct a large bone defect (like from a maxillectomy)?

I haven't heard of it being used for cheek bones but I know they sometimes use it for spinal fusion so I think it can be used anywhere.

I've been wondering about that too actually. They use it in the jaws, why not on cheeks and orbital rims? Only issue is symmetry. How do you adjust it once inflammation goes down? I guess healing time is another issue. Healing still takes month and it could move during that time. Maybe people are working on it right now.

I know for me they're planning to make a titanium mesh mold of where they want the bone to grow in my maxilla. After that it takes about six months for the new bone to form. I don't know how that protocol would transfer to orbital rims or cheeks. I'll ask my surgeon when I see him.

Seconded.
I've read your blog Chelie, and I hope it all works out for you. I find the bone morphogenetic protein treatment very interesting, but I don't know enough about it to have anything intelligent to add.
