Post by: Serra on April 09, 2015, 08:00:39 AM
Post any maxillofacial surgeons who are also plastic surgeons here. Any information regarding them, whether anecdotal, through the grapevine, their published works or anything of the sort is highly encouraged!

  • Dr Zarrinbal
  • Dr Hobar

Eppley is not a naxillofacial surgeon.  He's a craniofacial surgeon.  But then a lot of plastic surgeons are.

You people should go back and read threads. All the information is there. We've gone over all these surgeons in far grater depth than you're discussing here. Arnett is not a plastic surgeon. Eppley is a terrible surgeon has f'd up many people.

I search plastic and don't get any results besides my thread. I've read plenty of threads but I'm not about to read every last thread on here.
Thanks for the info on those particular surgeons though.

It says on his site:

"Dr. Eppley completed training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Barnes Hospital and St. John's Mercy Medical Center Hospital while in St. Louis"

Dr Eppley is trained as an oral surgeon. I consulted with him, just for a 2nd opinion. I liked him.

What did you consult with him for? What did he suggest?
I liked a couple of his answers on realself and emailed him a while back. For some reason, it seems like none of these surgeons can type without typos everywhere.

I had complications from my jaw surgery that resulted in an anterior maxillectomy. I consulted with him regarding a bone and tissue graft. Other surgeons suggested I have a fibular free flap but he felt like it was too risky with my medical history and I agreed. Ultimately everyone agreed that I should see a doctor in Miami who specializes in BMP. I was impressed with Dr. Manolakakis though. He took the time to research my medical history, he listened and he suggested I try amniotic stem cell injections.

Paul Johnson. Generally well-regarded. Before/afters hard to come by though.
Caroline Mills, no idea if she's any good
Noorman Van Der Dussen is a plastic surgeon who does some maxfac work

A lot of maxfacs do some plastic.  Whether you get them to do anything on your face really depends if it's something relatively simple (fillers, lower eyelid lift, chin lipo etc) or something complicated (e.g. rhinoplasty, facelift)

Hell the only plastic surgeon I would let near my nose is a plastic surgeon who specialises in noses.

Also, don't underestimate how difficult the healing can be.  From my experience, the recovery from every surgery I've had has been significantly worse than I expected

Thanks tiny.

Just heard that someone had a botched chin surgery with mills, which is exactly what I'm looking to correct.

Edit: Heard that Van der Dussen doesn't have a perfect track record, to those who are interested.

If you're looking for a surgeon with a perfect track record you will be looking a long, long time

I consulted with Dr Noorman for rhino revision and he seemed decent.  I wouldn't go to him for bimax because he simply doesn't do enough that kind of surgery - he's primarily a cosmetic surgeon, after all - but he does do a lot of chin work, genioplasties etc

Dr Y in NYC is another plastics guy who does a fair amount of chin bone-work.

There's the Italian max fac who's done some decent-looking rhinos.  Dr Raff....something.  I forget

I think it all depends on what procedures you want to do

I'm looking for someone who is very good at genioplasty revision. I'm looking to reverse a sliding genioplasty that has been operated on multiple times, burred down against my consent, and has created issues like a crooked lip, drooping muscle and visible step-off.

Zarrinbal.

I emailed him a couple of weeks ago and received no reply :S Is that normal?
I even included a German translation for his receptionists or whoever reads it first.

Consider the possibility that maybe you are asking the wrong question ?

How about hunting for a real board certified plastic surgeon who is also trained as a craniofacial surgeon - - who also has formal maxfac or orthognathic jaw surgery training ?  There are only a few of few of them.  But there are some.

I have and my situation scares them away :(
One even responded to my question on a public forum then deleted his response after I obliged to his email response to consult with him privately by email...

There are not very many surgeons trained like that (plastic / craniofacial / orthognathic ) --   but I would expect that a response on  a  public forum by one of them that was really trained that way would be highly unusual.

But until one of them has a chance to see your imaging and see you in person,  I would be surprised if the good ones would even begin to offer up a surgery plan - - or reject the notion outright.

Ive dealt with dr.urata. Im very pleased with his work with my nose and upper lip. I was born with a unilateral cleft lip, he worked on my nose and added fat to my upper lip to create shape. I recently saw him not that long ago for my relapse on my jaw surgery and he mentioned he can do something about my scar revision. I have attached a close up picture of the scar that im talking about but as you can see my nose is still slightly uneven but it is because of my cleft lip however I had it much worse before he made it more even.
