Title: Views on DIY orthodontic treatment
Post by: Underdawg on December 20, 2014, 05:58:56 AM
Ok, we all know how expensive orthodontic treatment is. I find it quite hard to believe the sense in paying an orthodontist thousands for an appliance that you can buy online for 12 dollars. Im thinking about purchasing a palatal expander and without sounding too ridiculous do it myself. Is there anything I need to know before installing it, i've watched youtube videos on how they fit in and turning the key etc. It seems incredibly simple and a quick process, and saves alot of money. :D

Why not do maxillofacial surgery on yourself while you're at it?

Are you mad and dumb. What orthodontics do is a specialist skill and I bet an orthodontist would't even try doing orthodontics on themselves

One thing about orthodontists. They're motherf**kers. Search around and consult with a few with hearing out their full plan from beginning to end about EXACTLY what they will do. Only go with orthodontists who have a strong track record working with maxillofacial surgeon. In fact if you're getting surgery I would go to a surgeon first and then find out which ortho he recommends. Finally, the OP is a f**king moron. You can't do this yourself. It is a highly specialized skill requiring a ton of expensive apparatus.
