Hi,
I am having jaw surgery and I was wondering what type of anesthesia you would normally receive?
In the past (for other surgeries) I have asked for (and been given) anesthesia through a mask (see pictures below). I would much prefer this method as I HATE, and have a FEAR, of needles.
If there are any videos or experiences of the anesthesia experience for jaw surgery, please share them with me. I am very NERVOUS!
Thanks!

They'll be doing this to you:

Needles should be the least of your worries.

;D

hehehehe

So much cutting lol I would welcome the needle with open veins!

What I originally meant, was, will I (and can I) receive anesthesia like this:
Someone please answer this question. I am REALLY nervous.

Chances are you'll get some kind of infusion during and after surgery anyway, which means needles.
But yeah anasthesia is mostly done via inhalation
-
Even though I am not classified as a child/pediatric patient anymore (more like a young adult/late teen), do you think they will still allow me to choose a scent for the mask? Also, is there an certified anesthesiologist that administers the anesthesia, or is it administered by the oral surgeon (or his/her assistant) like it is with wisdom teeth extractions?

Qualified anaesthesiologist whose fee will be a good chunk of the total fee.
-
Yes, you will work with an anesthesiologist. They should see you before surgery to discuss any allergies, etc. At that time you could discuss your fear of needles. A good anesthesiologist has a big bag of tricks...I promise you'll be fine. Their job is to keep the patient alive AND comfortable.

What kinds of tubes/wires will I be hooked up to when I wake up from surgery?

Intravenous drip for sure.

I found this video that shows the anesthesia induction process.

If anyone knows of any other videos/blogs similar to this, please let me know.
Thanks.

Oh did they not tell you about the catheter? Trust me brother, the needles in both your arms will be the very LAST of your worries considering they're going to put a plastic tube the size of a straw up your penis whole. If you're circumsized it's gonna suck even more. I don't know why people allow the absolutely barbaric practice of circumcision. Anyway, yeah the penis catheter will be in you during and after surgery but will be taken out of your penis about a day out of surgery. It only hurts a lot when it's pushed in and taken out, but not too bad. They put one in men for basically all major surgeries. Oh and yeah there's will be several needles, but the catheter is kind of the worst.
-
But honestly, anesthesia is the last thing I would be worrying about, or the catheter.
I've some pretty crazy stories from actual surgeons about the stuff that goes down after you go under. I mean you think that there'd be people watching or monitoring this s**t but there isn't. You have to remember, you're out of it, unconscious for like up to 5 hours. And they can do whatever they want to you. I heard about one case from a nurse about a very prominent surgeon who is still active in the states. Every time he does jaw surgery on someone, especially if it's like a younger kid in their 20s or whatever, he'll like play with them and make jokes about how small their penises are and touch them inappropriately in places. One time, in the middle of jaw surgery, he pulled down his own pants to reveal a huge throbbing erection turned his patient over and sodomized him vigorously for like twenty minutes. Then yelled out at the top of his lungs, "How's that for a lefort 1 b*tch!!!"
Some of these people are real animals. Honestly, I'm probably gonna wear a butplug before I go in for surgery.

Anything else I should know? Do they put those leg compression things on your feet?

Yes.

Lmfao Lazlo you're crazy ;D

I know of the catheter thing, but I'm pretty sure I didn't have one.

Some of these answers are totally inappropriate. Soccerboy9 anaesthesia has advanced so much. You won't know a thing and people like Lazio is talking a lot of nonsense. I am speaking from experience. I didn't have compression stockings in November 2014 and my surgery ( bimaxillary plus genioplasty) lasted less than two hours. Ask your surgeon as every surgery is different.
-
Thank you for your reply. I have reported Lazio's posts to the moderators and staff of this site!
-
Well done Soccerboy9, I reported him too last night. I hope something is done about it.
-
Has anyone ever undergone jaw surgery with just a local anaesthetic so that you'd remain conscious throughout the operation?
-
I totally agree with you, Tumerican.
This outrageous post should have been removed by now. I can't understand why this character is still posting and how on earth he has a high karma is beyond me.

Very simple. Lazlo made the forum aware of the "Obwegeser girl", who had a modified Le Fort III. Spent a small fortune consulting with Eugene Keller, who does Le Fort IIs. Thanks to him, earl25 got a modified Le Fort III which fixed his infraorbital deficiency. Otherwise, earl would be walking around with some plastic rubbish implants in his face.
tldr; Thanks to Lazlo we now know that high Le Forts can actually be successfully performed on non-syndrome patients and are not the white unicorn operation previously believed.
Lazlo's humour is unconventional, but the OP should just MAN UP.
-
+1 Plosko. I have zero issues with lazlos humor, if anything it kind of spices up the forum.
-
Yep, me too.
He's been on this forum a long time and contributed A TON of really helpful information.
Thanks, Lazlo :)

Yes.. some users here after surgery do not answer even on private messages. They found help here and now they do not want to help others.
There is notification on e-mail when someone send PM enabled by default.

I don't agree with you. I don't call his response a JOKE. It is plain and simple ABUSE.
On the one hand he is sexually abusive towards a surgeon and on the other hand he is not sensitive to the feelings of the person who posted the question. He may have very genuine anxiety. Who can say his question is needless?
-
Guys,
If you are not going to answer my questions/concerns, then please do NOT comment in this thread. However, if you would like to contribute and give me some encouragement/support, feel free to "comment away"!
Thanks!

Hey soccerboy9,
In your case it may be worth asking if you could meet/talk to your anesthesiologist prior to the morning of surgery. If you can't actually meet with them in person maybe you could do a phone consult with them? You then could explain your fear of needles, and they could also tell you how they prefer to do things.
Take care.

Oh sorry guys didn't mean to offend anyone. Yes, I've always helped anyone with all the information I have and have shared it freely This whole thing just gets very frustrating so I need to let out some steam by taking the piss out of some of you, but seriously you'll need a sense of humour to get through this. As far as the original poster's issues --listen dude--general anesthesia isn't a joke either. But I think the worst that will happen is some nausea post-surgery. It's no big deal. I would focus on getting the right surgeon and not worry about the anesthesia so much. Don't worry be happy as Bobby McFerrin says. And thanks for the support from Plosko, terry etc. glad to hear from my fans! Rico, listen guy, if I have any info for you I'll share it. I really don't know anything about the European surgeons. But I wanna know the results of this Zarrinbal guy. But you consulted with him so you know more. I'll let you guys all know more after I have more info and consultations. I'm here for you guys! Langpan you're a nice woman and your results are great! Glad to hear your breathing is okay. Peace.

I am having Lefort 1 Double Jaw Surgery this summer, at a hospital, and was wondering what kinds of tubes and wires I will be hooked up to before, during and after jaw surgery?
My surgeon said the surgery will last 3-4.5 hours, and will be performed under general anesthesia.
Let me know, so I can know what to expect.
-
I have scrubbed in on a lot of surgeries as a medical student and I can tell you there is ZERO nonsense that goes on in the operating room. As for what will occur .... in the pre-op area the anesthesiologist will come in an talk to you about what to expect, they will start an IV and hang a bag of fluids, you will be given a medication to help you relax before being brought into the room. Once in the room you will be moved over the the surgical table and the EKG leads will be placed on your chest, a blood pressure cuff will be placed on your arm and an O2 monitor will be attached to one of your fingers, you will be given medication into your IV that will make you fall asleep and after that you will have a tube placed down your throat to supply you with anesthesia gasses. The anesthesiologist will monitor your awareness and all your vitals from the head of your bed during the procedure. You will be prepped by the nurse which may mean a catheter if you will be under for any length of time and the surgical site will be scrubbed and prepped for surgery. All during this time there will be many staff members in the room including nurses, scrub techs, doctors, residents, students etc so there is no funny stuff going on while you are under. Before any incision is made they will verify again who you are by your band and chart and verify the procedure to be performed. One the procedure is finished a nurse will clean you off if there is surgical scrub that needs removed etc as you are being awakened by the anesthesiologist you will then be wheeled to a recovery room where you will be monitored until you can be brought to your room. They will usually remove your catheter here while you are still very sleepy so you may never realize you had one in. However it may be left in until they are sure you can get up and use the restroom on your own. After you are monitored in recovery for about an hour or two you will be brought to your room where the floor nurses will take over your care.

You missed the part where they had sex with you while under :P I hear they leave the catheter in for several days after this one. Can someone confirm? I don't care about needles but I hate catheters. I suppose I hate that IV thingy too.
