I'm looking back at some old pictures of me before and during braces. My palate seems to have gotten wider, but my face looked flatter after a while in braces, and more "mousey." Basically, my teeth got better looking at the expense of my face.
Has this happened to anyone else?

Sort of.
I'm annoyed my orthodontist didn't point out my recessed mandible why I was young, and as a result, I'm going to have to have braces again (fuuuuu) if I get the jaw surgery I want.
Compare this to my sister, who had an equally weak profile, but her orthodontist gave her some sort of blocks or device that completely corrected her jaw. She now has the perfect profile from the side which I'm left with a misshapen mess...

Can you share some pictures highlighting your concerns, Serra?
I kind of assumed that as long as one doesn't have lots of extractions, then the face tends to improve slightly with orthodontics?
Also, I'd have thouoght a wider palate would imrpove facial aesthetics, too.
