Can you have upper and lower jaw surgery with out braces if you already have a good bite already?

Unless I have my memory confused,  I have seen  pictures of a case like that about a year ago  - -  where I think the surgeon installed some temporary "pegs"  that were used for the rubber bands to hold the various pieces in place against the 3-D printed splints between the upper/lower jaws.

Arch bars are one option.  They are as horrendous for your gums as they look.
IMF screws are another option.
