Title: What type of chin implant do you reckon I need?
Post by: hairer on April 30, 2016, 12:25:12 PM
My vertical chin height is about 40mm, I want to lengthen my chin height by about 2-3mm (any more and my face will look too long) and also widen my chin so it is as wide as my lips; I'd also like a bit more projection and squarer shape.

Here is a pic:

Why an implant ?

A genioplasty - -  or possibly better - - a segmental osteotomy of the chin with a small bone graft can get you wider and more projection without the risks of an implant.

What's the price difference between a segmental osteotmy?

Just to note, I'm 20% bodyfat so my jaw may look stronger at lower bf. Ofc this doesn't affect my chin tho.

Yes it does.

Yes it does.

How would low bf affect my chin?

It's hard to tell how the chin looks in relation to the rest of the face since the picture only shows your lower half(I'm not asking you to post a full face pic) but I suspect that it does lack some height. In that case I don't think an implant is a good option.

My chin height is 40mm, about average but clearly less than ideal. Chin implants actually can offer an increase in chin height by about 2-3mm but no more than that. From what I've read, they CAN offer height but it's limited.

I won't post my full face, but even if I were to get 5mm vertical height on my chin, my face would look quite long.

I'd rather have a wider and more projecting chin with minor vertical chin height

I'm going to use a crude example here, but Henry Cavill has a averageish chin height yet makes up for it with width and projection, giving a squarer jaw look. I'm obviously no Cavill but I think a wide/projecting chin could work for me as my jaw is quite wide.

Hollow cheeks, tighter skin on the mmandible makes it look different.
