How many millimeters can you bring the chin forward in a Chin Wing operation? What are some actual results from people who had this kind of surgery?
Background: I am thinking of getting a Chin Wing, as it seems the best solution to my situation.
But I might need around 12mm of forward movement, and I do not know if this is possible in one surgery.
-
i asked the same question, was told about 1cm, are you also moving it vertically?
was does your labial fold look like?
-
No plan for vertical movement.
My mentolabial fold is currently very flat.
Doctor plans to use a bone transplant to create a natural looking mentolabial during the chin wing surgery.

i cant post it but if you don#t have a way to get it and need more info dm me
sadly chin wing is still hardly done, only 2 doctors asside from triaca / brusco have published on it, one from china one from italy whom triaca trained, so there is not a lot of research on it (c 10 articles). i am going through all of it at the moment. seems like there is a lot of ego / politics / jealousy going on, same as in any other high end field i guess. if you look at how the bsso technique has evolved from 1942 till now, these things move slowly.
the study above is relevant, because one of the minuses of bsso + genio vs chin wing people mention is the deep mlf you could end up with.

Would it be only Triaca who does the chin visor/shield though?

@mike888miller: Yes, thanks for the hint. I already have the paper ;-).
What kind of treatment plan do you have for yourself?
You are so right about the ego / politics / jealousy between doctors in this field: the treatment a doctor proposes seems to depend mostly on the procedure he likes or at least is able to do.
A doctor who can only do genioplasty will favor genioplasty. Doctors favoring implants will favor implants. Doctors favoring BSSO and Le Fort 1 will favor this combo. And so on.
As a customer, you have to find out what is best for you.
@BlueShark7: as far as I know, all doctors who do chin wings can do the chin shield, too. Depends on the mentolabial fold. Otherwise you might get this deep and silly looking mentolabial fold. Always depends on your bone structure.

Hi, I'm a bit late to this. What is the chin visor? I'm really curious could you please describe what deficiency and problems the chin visor addresses. Any visual examples or drawings please?

It seems the chin visor osteotomy can modify the mentolabial fold and the lip profile and lip competence.

The chin shield seems to help to modify the mentolabial fold as well as the lip profile and lip competence in combination with a chin wing: when you advance and rotate the mandible border in a chin wing osteotomy the mentolabial fold might become too deep and look silly. The chin shield (bone graft from another part of your body) fills the mentolabial fold to some extent then.

Probably around 8-10mm, more than that and it might look unnatural (witch-chin, stepoff, etc)
