Title: Surgery Swelling
Post by: Vic on September 19, 2016, 12:05:26 PM
Hi All, got surgery with Dr Z next week. Does anyone know how long it takes for swelling to go down after double jaw surgery before you're presentable to go out again?

Hi Vic

Cool that you're going through with the surgery.

Is Dr.Z treating you with braces too or are you "just" getting the surgery to improve aesthetics?

Just aesthetics mate, although I will be getting braces applied before I leave, because he said it's easier for him to do the surgery with them on.

What will he be performing on you and what's the goal of your surgery?

He's doing upper and lower jaw surgery to correct by teeth protrusion as well as chin widening and lengthening. Then I'll be going back a few months later once the bones have healed for a side wing

"chin widening", how is that done? Is it like a genioplasty where he splits the bone in the middle and moves it horizontally outward or what?

He uses a piece of bone from the hip, and makes a cut in the chin vertically down the middle as well as horizontally for the sliding genio and then inserts the piece of hip bone

Okay, exactly as I imagined. But thanks for explaining, and good luck next week!
