How long after jaw surgery did everyone start working out again, going running or hitting the weights?
-
It would vary depending on the surgery but in standard fare is generally 2- 4 weeks after the surgery one can commence gentle exercise and 6 - 8 weeks later more strenuous stuff. I guess its better to be conservative and avoid anything too hardcore for a while.

Most surgeons will strongly urge surgery patients to walk. Early and often - - and walk as vigorously as the patient is comfortable - - as soon as possible after most surgeries (obvious exceptions for things like a broken leg !)
Walking as soon as possible after anesthesia and frequently thereafter is the best thing patients can do to help themselves.
Avoiding things like weight lifting - - which involve a lot of tension in even collateral muscle groups - - is likely appropriate. But walking - - a lot of walking - - is really good for post op patients.
