Hi, I'm thinking about getting a sliding genioplasty with 8mm horizontal advancement. However, according to some reports this procedure makes the chin noticeably narrower/pointier from the front. Any thoughts on this? Also, does 8mm seem reasonable for me? I don't want to go overboard, so I'd really appreciate your opinions on this.

Depends where your surgeon makes the cut. Genioplasty's usually make your chin a bit wider though, if the cut is made higher up the mandible and bring the whole chin forward
