Title: Osteoporosis make bones smaller?
Post by: Bowie on September 29, 2019, 10:03:46 AM
I’m on a very strong steroid spray so it can potentially cause bone loss, is bone loss ever visible like would your jaw look smaller?

Yes. That's what also happens with aging.

That’s pretty terrifying but thank you for confirming. I want to quit the steroid sprays but I can barely breathe without them :(

The risks are probably higher with systemic steroids than those directed to one place. So, maybe not too much of a worry.

Yes that’s what my doctor says, although, I’m scared that if it is directed I one place then more bone will reworn from that place.

Why do you have problems with breathing?

I hope you can recover from it!

Possible. I don't know exactly. But if it directed itself, for example to your turbinate bones inside nose and shrunk those, those are the same ones they cut down with surgery for large turbinates.

yes and I do certainly need to shrink them. Apparently Sailer cut the posterior ones but not the ones at the front lol...

I don't know which ones do exactly what. Just that if too much of them are cut out during a surgery, a risk is empty nose syndrome.

Yes exactly! I am seeing an ENT surgeon who is well aware of this. He told me to try the steroid sprays for now, if they don’t work then he will “reshape” the turbinates, cutting very little out so as to avoid empty nose syndrome.

Sounds like they are working.

They really are, now I’m just worried about bone resorption lol. I suppose I can get that tested somehow anyway.

Ya. But by dexa scan but that's to parts of spine and hips for osteoporosis. Maybe one for other places or just have someone look at your ceph to eyeball bone density.
