And im starting to get really nervous :/ I got a script of ativan though, so I'll be taking that tomorrow. Ug, im somewhat excited, but im just scared of that first week. The moment I wake up and feel like s**t after having my jaw cut up. I cant believe the day is here. I remember when I got my braces and I told myself, one day its going to be the day before surgery and s**ts gonna get real. It arrived quicker than expected, and I just cant wait till the day its all behind me.
-
You'll do great. I had major league panic attacks before surgery so definitely take ativan if you feel your anxiety is getting bad. Don't let it get so bad that your freaking out and you forget that you have the magic pills to sedate you (happened to me haha).

Did they by any chance sedate you a little while you were waiting to go into the operating room? Thats when I get really nervous lol. And I hope im pretty damn drugged up the day im in the hospital. I get anxiety having to stay in the hospital, but funny thing is, I want to work in a hospital xD
-
LOL, you sure do like your pills. Don't worry, you'll turn out great.
-
I kind of just want to be a zombie while im in the hospital lol. Dont want to remember my quick stay there. I'll walk around as much as I can and drink the amount of water im required to drink and then im bouncin home haha
Thanks PloskoPlus. I always feel more prepared at night time for the surgery and during the day time I get anxiety thinking about it.
-
Eek, I didnt think about the constipation from all the meds. I'll for surely be getting that tomorrow :) Thanks
-
Good luck, nrelax11! You seem to have a really great plan, and I'm sure everything will go great.
I hope the next few weeks go by super quick! Everyone here will be thinking of you!
(Don't let yourself get dehydrated; watch those electrolytes.)
-
That seems to have come around so quickly!
The Ativan is great idea to keep stress levels to a minimum, make sure you mention it to the anesthetist though before hand - pretty sure it won't make any difference at all but you want to cover all bases.
Think I was given a benzo of some sort in my room as I was getting myself ready - assless gown and surgical stockings flatters no one! Anyway, I have no recollection of being wheeled into the operating theatre so it kicked in pretty damn quickly whatever it was.
Good luck, you'll be back with us in no time :)

Thanks Madigliani :) Ive only told my best friend that my surgery is tomorrow and so its nice having this forum too for support:) Im trying to into this as positive as possible, so that im the same way during recovery. No matter how crappy it is. My other friends will find out whenever it is I see them lol.

Oh, that's another thing. Wear some sort of underwear! I don't know if jaw surgery is somehow different, or if different hospitals have varying panty protocols, but bring something of your own.
I had surgery a long time ago and went in workout capris (sans any underwear) and they made me wear disposable, baggy panties into surgery.
-
I don't think you're allowed to wear underwear during the surgery and immediately afterward.
-
Yeah I got into an argument about that, I wasn't even allowed to wear a simple cotton pair - they insisted on nothing at all, not even the usual horrible hospital ones. Never had that before so assume it's another of UZ Brussel's 'quirks'.
-
It's the same deal in every other hospital I've been to.
-
Do they not allow underwear because of the catheter? If I have one. Well I'll find out if I can or cant wear underwear.
-
I've had surgery a few times in the U.S. (other stuff, not jaw surgery), and every single time they made me wear underwear. If I wasn't sporting my own, they gave me a pair to wear. I was kidding, but apparently there really are different panty protocols. Oh, I didn't think of the catheter, though.
Anyway, good luck nrelax11!
-
I've never had a catheter and I've still had to walk around with my ass exposed every single time. ;D
-
Yea I mean my last surgery I was able to wear underwear, but it was an outpatient procedure.
Thanks LoveofScotch!

It's not like that in the UK, must be a weird euro thing ;)

Yeah damn all those Euro weirdos. It's a good thing the UK is not a part of Europe. ;D

We're an island nation, thank god.

Anyone have any words of wisdom for me lol. Im pretty f**king anxious today. Already having trouble eating because I cant get my mind off of whats happening tomorrow. I am going shopping in a little bit, so I suppose that'll help a little.
-
Get a good blender. If you have that then you're good to go. Also, try not to fart during the surgery: http://www.thefrisky.com/2009-09-04/man-farts-during-surgery-and-sets-his-genitals-on-fire/
;D :o

Oh my god man, eat like it's your last supper - gorge on all your favourite goodies that you know will be off limits for months. I had steak and fries the night before mine but it was pizza that I was craving a few weeks in, it's amazing how much you miss texture and crunch in particular.
If you can get your hands on it then coconut water is really great for keeping hydrated plus it's not acidic like juice so better for your teeth. I'm crazy about the stuff generally, nice with vodka too ;)
-
Im feeling a lot better now. Went out and got some new shirts and some things for after surgery and that helped get my mind off everything. My parents are bringing me some bomb ass italian food later, and then I'll have my night shake before im done eating. Staying positive. Everything is going to be okay :)
-
Good luck. I'd be very wary of your Ativan usage before surgery. No underwear for me either in my surgery.

Thanks!
I stopped using the ativan because I forgot how weird it made me feel. It reminds me of ambien if you stay up a little on it lol. Ive had it prescribed in the past and didnt like it then.

I just wanted to stop by one more time to say good luck, and I'm sure everything will go great!
It will be all good! I hope you're able to get a little sleep tonight, too.

Gotta love the summer! I thought it was Friday or something today. ;D
Good luck with your surgery!

Surgery went really well guys :) Well so far that is. Im only numb in my lower lip and my chin, which is good, but im in more pain now. Sucks not being able to move you jaw:/ and everytime I almost fall asleep, I feel like im going to choke lol. I already like the length of my face now and my surgeon did a really good job. Really glad I got him as my surgeon because I had a choice for a couple others.
-
You did it, well done!
Glad everything went well :)
-
Glad you're doing OK! Hang in there, nrelax11!

I have to do a couple school things starting day 8, but im not getting back into school and the swing of things for 3 weeks post op. So I took 3 weeks off you can say if you dont count me doing a couple things in a few days, but im jus sitting through a couple class things.

Congrats man, that's awesome! So glad to hear you're doing well. Can you tell me about your surgery procedure? Who was your doctor? And what procedures did you have done specifically. I'm an old time member of this forum who was away for a while, but I'm back now. If you feel like writing, give me a rehash of what you had done and what your objectives were. Cheers.

Hey there Lazlo, thanks :)
I basicallyt had surgery to fix my lip incompetence/ gummy smile. My lip incompetence was putting a lot of strain on my facial muscles because I was always trying to close my mouth. Anyways, I had my maxilla impacted 5mm and advanced 7 mm and my mandible also advanced 7 mm. I went to a more local surgeon in my area (Bay Area, CA) My mom works for Kiaser Permanente, so thankfully my surgery was covered by our insurancr. I am so thankful for her medical coverage!!
The only thing that has been bothering me is sitting. I have some hip pain problems I almost got rid of before surgery bit is still there and I cant stand all this sitting. I walk around and stuff and dont really nap during the day, but my bum has been numb a lot :/

Hey nrelax11!
One more day kind of almost over! Hope you're doing OK!

Hey LoveofScotch! Yes, day three kind of almost over with lol :p. Im just doing what I need to do and hanging in there. Im on like robot mode right now hahah.
-
Good to see that you're posting and such.
On day three I was like zombie. I couldn't even motivate myself to watch movies. I slept a lot. When I was awake I would just lay there wishing I could get back to sleep.
So the point is you seem to be doing really well. Keep us updated!

Thanks ticktickatick:) Yea I had a septoplasty and turbinate reduction last summer and recovered very quick. I know this surgery is a lot more intense, but my body handles the recovery pretty well I guess.
