Title: Receding gums
Post by: x on April 12, 2013, 06:31:04 PM
Anyone else have them? Can an improper bite cause them? Every time I bite into an apple I think I'm putting a massive amount of friction on my gums

i'm really starting to worry about this. I'm much too young for this kind of recession, maybe it's time to see a gum specialist. no one else here has this issue? it seems like a bad bite could be putting extra friction on the gums, like my lower teeth are flared forward and I have microgenia, so there's very little support there. kinda worried about this

Is gum grafting a good idea? My dentists has always told me that I brush my teeth way too hard and I can now see the root on some of the teeth since the gum has receded a lot in those places. Having braces certainly didn't help in that regard either. The root is darker than the the rest of the tooth so it doesn't look good to have somewhat white teeth that turn more yellow near the gumline due to the darker root showing.

I wondered the same thing after a family member got receding gums.

All this talk about electric tooth brushes is a bit concerning. I've always used on. Granted I make sure to run the head under warm water first to soften the bristles.

Are they really that dangerous? And is the waterpik that useful?

Both my ortho and dentist recommended getting an electric toothbrush since I brush too hard.
