Do you happen to have the name of this Italian surgeon please? I only speak German and English unfortunately. Also I live in the US so a surgeon here would be great.

I think it was Sandro Pelo.

I've emailed Mommaerts and have received similar abrupt replies to surgery questions.

I put it down to the fact that he's an extremely busy man, and when he gets emailed questions from patients, I understand if he just wants to fire off the replies quickly and efficiently.

When he emailed me, he had just arrived at an airport and in the following email he was courteous enough.

I found him to be very nice when I met him for a consultation.

For balance I should give my experience too.

Herr B?ttner is an incredibly helpful man, and is also a surgeon who works with MM (I think).

Through Herr B?ttner I was able to organise skype consultations free of charge, which easily lasted 30 minutes of him answering all my questions in detail. Mind you did this after he had finished an operation, so that's pretty special imo.

Overally my consultation with him in person was great, and the follow-ups were also reassuring. I did have problems with the English receptionist who disappeared for medical reasons, however since switching to the German doctor I've received much better service.

I can't really tell you why some people might find him dismissive. Could it be he just isn't good with e-mail, and a lot of this is happening over e-mail? Does he just not like British people? Perhaps he just likes Germans / Francophones such as myself?

Either way I can't knock them for service so far. Especially when all the other maxfac surgeons I've contacted just seem to disappear once I've had my consult. Dr Alfaro and another in Holland were particularly bad. Completely ignoring my e-mails, not giving me photos that were taken, nor scans or moulds.

I found MM perfectly nice in person and answered my questions reasonably well considering the circumstances.  I'm just not convinced by the surgical plan!  (If I was OK with the plan, I would be totally OK with having him do the surgery.  As it is, I will reserve final decision til I've been in braces a while and I know how much decomp I am likely to get)

Very good question. In my case, I'm 90% sure it was Buettner, based on what I observed and experienced at the consults. I think he only revises B's work. He also operates with him, so you'll never know who actually operated you. That being said, B. may be very competent and experienced. He certainly appears to be. And yes, he's about 100 times nicer than M. No attitude from him. And for a change, he acts like a human (smiles, gives you full-sentence answers, jokes...) and seems passionate about his work rather than go through the motions (M). So, he may not be a bad choice to consider. He draws from M's massive experience but has all the traits you want a surgeon to have.

I've seen B a couple of times and he's by far the best of the bunch to talk to anyway, a much much more compassionate person than M could ever hope to be. B has featured on a Swiss tv surgery show so he must be pretty competent himself...hope I've got the right one there, so don't quote me on that.

Dr De Graeve is another one, my jaw nearly hit the floor the first time I met him - he is ridiculously good looking  :o

yeah, that's him. i think he's a name we'll hear of more often. a polar opposite from M as far as personality and rapport with the patient is concerned. and he's very good looking himself as well.
