Chin-wing plans on hold
« on: April 06, 2014, 02:10:54 PM »
Just got a reply from Zarrinbal. He looked at my scans and tells me my nerve is running too low towards the back of my mandible, so they wont be able to cut all the way back to the jaw angle. It is not possible to change the shape of the jaw angle. He said only the chin and the frontal border of the jaw can be advanced. Also, he has found an "apical infection" in tooth 36 that need to be treated before he can consider operating on me. I was surprised by this as thought my teeth were in good condition. Anyone ever heard of this, and how long would treatment take ?  :-[

You might as well just get a standard genioplasty.

If he can't do anything to the angles, then you're just gonna get a big U-shaped faced, rather than a V-shape.

Implants are probably still an option for you, though.

wouldn't the effect be similar to a pre-jowl chin implant ? He told me a genioplasty would not look good on me as my chin is already small. Advancing it would made it look smaller and pointier and emphasize my pre-jowl area  :-\

Sorry, I haven't seen your photos.

I suppose what I am trying to say is that, if you are only thickening the body of the mandible and not touching the gonial areas then I don't think you can achieve optimum aesthetics as the v-shape that most people aspire to comes from wide and low jaw angles.

No problem. It is a bit disappointing but tbh the whole idea of the chin-wing was freaking me out anyway. I'm female so having strong, low jaw angles not a priority. I can disguise the area with long hair, or I can look into some other procedure as a compromise. Maybe fillers or fat graft ? I need to do some more research !
