Fermented foods?

I've read in places that yogurt is a good post-surgery food. Yogurt is often fermented though. Are fermented foods really permitted post op? Seems like a bad, bad idea no? At least until the superficial wounds heal.

Because fermented food has a lot of bacteria so he is thinking it could cause infection, I've no idea if it could but probably won't risk it.
