What is downgraft vs CCW?  Are they done together?

You can downgraft the anterior maxilla or posterior maxilla. Anterior downgrafting is used to correct inadequate tooth show. Posterior downgrafting is basically the same as counterclockwise rotation which is used to flatten the occlusal plane. It's kind of like tilting your head backwards, which increases your chin projection and neck-chin distance and airway. It's what people with a narrow airway often subconsciously do to help them breathe better.

If someone lacks tooth show but does NOT want a steeper occlusal plane would it be possible to downgraft the maxilla to improve tooth show while maintaining the same occlusal plane?

If you downgraft the entire maxilla evenly, no change occurs. In the cases where only an anterior downgraft is needed, the OP tends to be slightly too flat if anything, so it would improve. Anterior movements are quite meaningless when it comes to the OP.

I had a second opinion and the surgeon mentioned down graft and would not do CCW.  He wants to come forward 8 mm both jaws for sleep apnea.  I don't have a problem with teeth show and my jaws are pretty evenly set back from teeth extractions and head gear as a teen.   The first surgeon mentioned 3 mm upper, 8 mm lower and CCW.  I'm just having trouble with the terms.  Thanks for replies.
