Straining my jaw in order for teeth to be in contact
« on: January 15, 2021, 04:55:27 AM »
At 4 months post OP having my teeth in contact feels forced and unnatural, meaning I have to somewhat clench my jaw to achieve a closed bite. My teeth mesh together nicely, the problem is my jaw naturally wants to be open 1-2cm as if the jaw joint is in the "closed" position without my teeth being in contact. I'm guessing this degree of jaw joint closure made my teeth touch prior to surgery, and now further rotation of the mandible head is needed to achieve teeth touch after surgery. Is this normal and just a case of jaw muscles getting accustomed to jaw positions?

It's possible you're teeth don't line up without tension, so you're tensing up and moving things around subconsciously to get them to fit.
If things lined up correctly, you shouldn't have tension.

If this isn't strain to find the bite but just that the mouth is slightly open, I don't think that's a big deal.
