What surgery were they going to do on me do you think?
« on: July 15, 2014, 06:23:14 PM »
From the age of 12 to 14 I had two bicuspids extracted from top and 2 from bottom and also 4 wisdom teeth, for my teeth crowding, my canines were growing in the wrong place and had to be pulled down to their place. I had braces and had to wear headgear when I was around 13. It was also around this time that I remember my surgeon told my mother that I need a "surgery on my lower jaw's right side to open up space. "

It was 8 years ago and I might not remember really well so Im not sure if it was the right side of my lower jaw but I am completely sure about the "lower jaw" part and "opening space". So my question is, what surgery do you think they were going to do on me? Is there any surgeries for just one side of the jaw?

Without any additional information, it sounds like surgery was an option initially but your orthodontist went for a orthodontic work around (extracting teeth and preventing the maxilla from growing forward with head gear).  Was it cervical headgear, high pull headgear etc.?

It was a high pull I think. What are the different types? It was attached from my upper jaw to top of my head so thats a high pull right?

So does anybody have any idea what type of surgery it might have been? considering that I now have an asymmetry and feel that right side of my face is much less developed than left... was the surgery going to prevent that? I mean what kind of surgery can do that? Some of you guys know a lot about surgeries that they do these days, so what do you think?
