Day of Surgery - What Will Happen?

Hey all,

I was wondering if someone can describe to me (in chronological order) the events that will occur on the day of surgery. I am having Lefort 1 double jaw surgery. It will last 3-4.5 hours.

Here is an example of the types of answers I am looking for:

Answer Example:

STEP 1 You will arrive a the hospital and check in. The nurse will check your vitals and measure and weigh you.

STEP 2 The nurse will escort you to the pre-surgery room where you will be asked to change into a hospital gown.

STEP 3 [...]

Any answers/information would be greatly appreciated!

I haven't had jaw surgery yet, so I can't be of any specific help. One thing to keep in mind is that, regardless of the surgery, every surgeon, anesthesiologist, surgical team, hospital, etc. does things a little differently. Unless you can find someone here that's worked with your surgeon etc. the run down of their day of surgery probably will not apply to you.

Sorry you're so nervous about all this. It might be worth talking to your surgeon, anesthesiologist, etc. to find out exactly what YOU need to expect. That way you would know specifics regarding what will happen.

Exact details vary between hospitals and even between surgeons working at the same hospital. There are HUNDREDS of jaw surgery blogs where the authors go into excruciating needless detail usually called "Day 0".  Google is your friend.

You usually check in the day before the surgery. The time leading up to the surgery is quite uneventful. You'll probably meet your surgeon one last time before the surgery but other than you'll mostly be trying to find a way to kill the time until a nurse comes and tells you to get ready for the surgery (you'll be asked to change clothes). You'll then be told to stay in your bed and then someone will come and lead your bed into the operating room where you'll be given anesthesia.
