I had a consultation with an orthodontist who told me my options to correct my overjet and create a better profile were:
1- Get braces to camouflage the overjet, and then do a genioplasty.
2- Get lower jaw surgery

He also told me to get a lateral ceph done that I still haven't presented to him yet.

So, going by my research, the lower jaw surgery would be the more complete treatment but I wanted to ask you two things: Do you share this view? And do you think I'll also need a genioplasty along with jaw surgery for a "perfect" result?

Hey man, thanks for the reply. Did you have any of those problems before the camouflage or is that what created them? About the airway thing, I'm not sure how wide mine is but I don't think I suffer from any sleep apnea symptom except for maybe never feeling refreshed after sleeping. I'm thinking about having a sleep study to figure out if I have it or not.

That's the thing, I'm not sure if it's caused by any skeletal issues or if I have sleep apnea in the first place. I never feel refreshed but it could be due to stress or anxiety. I'm not a mouth breather and I don't snore at night.

I'm leaning towards doing the surgery because like you said that'll give the superior result, but it does have some negatives.

forget the camouflage...I'm in the same boat currently. had braces in high school and they camouflaged and I still need jaw surgery to get a correct bite and the results I want.
