Low level laser therapy for numbness - need SoCal referral
« on: June 24, 2019, 05:07:02 PM »
I'm considering LLLT for residual numbness - has anyone done this? Does anyone have a practitioner in Southern California?

I find various chiropractors and sports clinics who offer this, but I'm not sure what they do - just use the wand over your chin? I'd prefer someone who has actually treated jaw surgery patients, of course.

Thanks for any info you may have!

Have found a dentist in LA (mid-Wilshire area, UCLA-trained) who offers LTTT, I'm her first post-jaw surgery patient. She has used for patients after other procedures and for TMJ and other issues. She read up on the research after I reached out to her so we're giving this a try. I wanted someone who understood the anatomy of the nerves, muscles, etc. in that area. She reviewed my final x-rays from my orthodontist (just got braces off). We've had 3 treatments so far, I'm doing 2 a week. She uses two different lasers, one for my chin, lower lip area, all the way up my cheeks to near the ears, and one inside the mouth of my upper gum. I am getting more throbbing like sensations, especially after treatment. We may even go to 20 sessions. Have no idea if insurance is going to cover, we're trying various approaches and am using my HSA account for now. Will report back!

I use a combination of Laser (home laser), Infrared and pulsed magnetic therapy for both numbness and pain and general healing as its hard to get circulation in the jaw and anything that gets blood flow there. I am curious, what kind of laser does she use on the upper gum, a blue laser?
