looking for guidance
« on: March 01, 2015, 05:22:58 PM »
I am new here and I was looking for some advice,  I have recently become conscious my lower jaw and chin are misaligned with my upper jaw.  I have in the past been told I have an overbite and when I close my teeth the upper jaw is noticeably ahead.  Also I have a labiomental crease ( I think thats what its called) but one side is different from the other, this also makes one side of my chin different from the other.

Who should I consult with to try and fix these things and what are some possible options?  I am primarily interested in having my lower jaw aligned with the upper jaw.

see an orthodontist, tell them you're not happy with your jaw and they will tell you about treatment and might refer you to a surgeon

No, better find a good surgeon, who will have a good orthodontist.

I agree - better to find a good surgeon. Based on the consult I had yesterday the surgeon was telling me how he would only work with specific really good orthos vs. any of them as the orthodontics they do can be shoddy and would directly impact the quality of jaw surgery results you would get. So he only works with a select few orthodontists.

When you guys mean surgeon are you talking about a plastic surgeon or a maxillofacial surgeon?  How do I go about finding a good one?

When I said surgeon I meant a maxillofacial surgeon. I am currently looking into Dr. Jamali - Dr. Wolford - Dr. Posnick - Dr. Arnett.
