Any Tips for Sleeping? (4 days post op)
« on: November 23, 2015, 06:12:27 PM »
Hi Everyone,

I had a max & mandible osteotomy on Friday. Swelling has peaked today & is starting to go down (slowly). I've been sleeping upright with a wedge pillow, between the nose bleeds, not being able to breath through my mouth & nodding off only to lean my jaw into a pillow, sleep is not happening.

I know it'll get easier but right now no sleep is murder & my back is not appreciating being upright at all times. Any tips or tricks?

Thanks

C

Sounds like you need more pillows to wedge yourself into a better position. Do the pain killers help you go to sleep? When I was at your stage, it was common to be waking up every hour or so. Then just one day, WABAM!, you'll hit an inflection point and have the best sleep you've had in days.

I have a pillow mountain, in a variety of shapes & sizes. When I get it right I can get an hours sleep or so before being woken up by a nose bleed or my head tipping somewhere it shouldn't.

This inflection period you speak off sounds great. I'm only taking paracetemol as codeine on an empty stomach is making me nauseous so it's not really making me sleepy. It's literally over the counter levels of pain management which is ok, it's doing the job but sleep would also be nice.

So sorry can't be of more help than above response. Had SARPE surgery month ago. I did use a neck travel pillow which helped some what.  Hang in there it does get better.
