Would I have looked like a chimp with upper jaw surgery?
« on: July 30, 2016, 09:56:47 AM »
So I ended up only have lower jaw surgery for my underbite because my surgeon said my upper jaw had full projection and if he had moved me forward I would've looked like a chimp? Would a 2mm advancement really have me looking chimpish?

Hm so what you're saying is, actually my surgeon made the right call to not bring my maxilla forward, what I really actually need is a zygomatic osteotomy or filled of some fort to bring the midface region more outward? He did say I am flat next to my nose, but he said upper jaw surgery wouldn't have helped that, in fact it could've exaggerated it. He said my nose and lips would push too far forward. I attached another picture.

Thank you this was helpful to hear. I guess I just always assumed that a normal lefor 1 would give me the projection of the midface I always hoped for but I guess I was misinformed. My surgeon had actually posed doing a 3 piece lefort but he said he risks weren't worth the reward and the only reason he has wanted to do it I totally was because the teeth weren't leveled. So I guess I got my flat cheeks genetically and I don't know if it's worth trying to fix it unfortunately. My main issue still is my teeth. For some reason they look ever recessed. I don't know if it's in my head of if braces may have retroclined them a bit. I will attach a picture

Maybe not that specific procedure... But my midface is definitely noticeably flat. But I guess I'll just accept that as genetics. I just don't know why upper set of teeth just appear retroclined/not broad enough. I hoped the surgery would help that

I think your surgeon did a good job, your bone structure looks very nice now and your upperlip has that attractive curve going upwards. Profile especially has good facial harmony. I would move on with life if I was you.

also i hope none of this is stressing you out. you look great. if you don't have any functional problems consider all fo this a resounding success. And you're very pretty.

I know some people on a plastic surgery forum and something I'm starting to realize is that internet discussion and analysis and dissection after surgery leads a lot of people to complete madness as well as filling them with all sorts of false information. In your case sure there are people on this forum who might nit pick with your face OR LITERALLY WITH ANY FACE PRESENTED HERE. So that doesn't mean a thing. Is your face unbalanaced as a result of surgery Not at all and you look great. That's it. You really don't need this forum. It's full of a lot of f**king losers anyway!  :-\

It's been stressing me out so much! But this is positive to hear as I've seen you are very honest on people's posts! I've noticed this as well, I've been fed all types of information that I'm not even sure what to believe anymore and I'm starting to become obsessed. I definitely did not care so much about every little facial detail til after surgery :/. I hope I go back to normal soon. Thanks for your honesty and kindness though :).

I think you look great and absolutely wouldn't think about any other surgeries.

Your cheek bones don't seem flat to me and fit your face perfectly as they are. You have to remember that different lighting settings can really change the way you look a lot. Many features aren't visible at all if you are standing in a badly lit room, or if the light is coming from a weird angle.

No need to look into more surgeries!

Ok thank you. Based on my pictures, do my upper set of teeth look pushed back? That's my only concern as I hate when teeth aren't broad.

You are so lucky your surgeon was so thoughtful about aesthetics. My daughter had Lefort 1 (2 piece) and the changes to her face are astounding and I am so angry at the surgeon. I waver back and forth between having hope that it will improve and feeling hopeless. You look wonderful.

Wow I am so sorry that happened to her :(. What was her malocclusion and how many mm did the surgeon advance her? Sometimes I still think I needed upper jaw surgery because when I talk I feel like I have limited tooth show but then again I always think how a lefort could've been a really bad idea for me.
