Strong jaw , weak chin. Best proccedure?
« on: October 05, 2019, 03:48:53 PM »
Hey guys,
I have (in my opinion) a strong jaw, but my chin is quite weak.
Would jaw surgery nevertheless be the best choice or should i just opt for a chin wing/ genio.

here are pics which demonstrate my jaw and weak chin clearly.

one from  3/4 and the other pic from full profile.

I don't think you have a week chin.  You might have bi-max protrusion where the teeth angle out too much which is what can make the chin look weak when it's really not.

I have a class 1 bite.
My chin doesnt protude at all from the side profile, is that not a weak chin?
It seems like it is mainly my jaw which causes forward growth of the lower third

Common Asian trait is BI-MAX PROTRUSION. It's when the front teeth ANGLE OUT a lot. It's seen by the LIPS also ANGLING OUT a lot (lip protrusion) which is seen in your profile. Bi-max protrusion, especially the protrusion of the LOWER teeth (which protrudes out the lower lip), can make the chin look relatively recessive. Someone with Bimax protrusion can still have a class 1 bite.
So, you MIGHT have that. I think it's most likely reason your chin looks recessive to you. You have good bone structure, Class 1. So the bimax is NORMAL for Asians to have. THAT is WHY I don't think your chin is 'recessive'. I think chin augment with the bimax lip protrusion could look weird.

I had braces so my teeth are pretty straight and not angled if that was what you meant with bimax.
I thought a protruding mouth had to do with forward growth?

It's my guess. An X-ray would show the inclination of your teeth. If it's not the teeth, then it's your protruding mouth, especially lower which is kicking up illusion of recessive chin. All in all, I don't think you have a weak chin.
