Double jaw surgery Before and After
« on: June 07, 2014, 06:27:49 AM »
Hi there everyone,
I'm new to this forum, having recently had my jaw surgery I have found it helpful to read other people's stories.
I am currently 15 days post op. Still swollen and numb but getting a bit better each day. Thought I would share my pictures to help others who may be deciding if they want to have jaw surgery.
I had an overbite and was told there was a skeletal deformity. I'm still getting used to the changes but so far I am quite happy with the change in my profile. Hope this helps xx

Hi Cassie!  I have an 8.5mm overjet and I am highly considering jaw surgery in the near future.  I am curious if you had any pain or breathing problems before surgery and if anything has improved afterwards?  You look great by the way!!

I went to my orthodontist a couple of days ago and he said it looks good and everything is where it should be. I didn't have a huge overbite to begin with. I think with me it was more my jaws grew incorrectly - if that makes sense.

Thank you. That means a lot. I am happy so far but it's hard to judge when it's on yourself and plus I'm still swollen.

Hi,
I did have breathing problems - I would mostly breathe through my mouth and one side of my nose was slightly deviated. I also would clench my jaws at night which caused some pain.
It's hard to give you a good indicator as I'm still healing but my nose has definatley opened up more and so far I haven't had clenching issues.

Off the top of my head I think they moved the upper jaw up 4mm. They had to rotate it about 2mm because my midlines were off. They said they would move my lower jaw forward to match my upper and I also had a genioplasty.

I've read a few stories that this surgery really does help with breathing!  How is your clenching now?  And, if you don't mind sharing, could you give us the name of your doc, or if that's a bit too personal, if your surgery was in US, UK, Canada, etc?

Thank you in advance!!

Hey, I haven't been clenching since the surgery.
I am from AUS and my surgeon was Dr Joe Gun and Dr Alf Nastri. :)
