Nothing to add to this other than if you think about it logically a chin wing will create the illusion of a properly developed jaw. A BSSO after that would therefore advance the chin beyond normal proportions.
Maybe yes, but not necessarily - it depends on the level of recession. People have major recession and get an advancement of 15mm or so with a combination of genio and a BSSO. It depends on the jaw and the level of advancement done with the chin wing. A majorly recessed person could go for a relatively conservative chin wing (e.g 5-6mm advancement) if they planned further surgery. Yes, if they got a larger advancement and then got a BSSO, it would look weird
If someone was only moderately recessed then yeah, an chin wing followed by a BSSO would leave too big a chin. You'd have to do a BSSO and genio
If the jaw is only a little recessed then a chin wing will make it look normal but if it's worse, then it won't. A chin wing isn't going to change the lip position for example.
That said, personally I wouldn't do it this way round because -
the aesthetic outcome of a bsso may be compromised if you had chin wing done before bsso, though.
I'm glad I got an implant and not a genio, because I got an OK visual improvement while I weighed up and researched surgery, and I can easily have it removed if I need to
