Apnea Surgery in Europe
« on: February 01, 2015, 01:12:40 PM »
Dear All,

I am currently living in Europe and I suffer from severe apnea.
After having two failed surgeries (uvulopalatoplasty and tonsillectomy), I
think the only solution for my case is an maxillomandibular advancement
because I have very narrow airways.

I am currently searching for the best surgeons in Europe that have experience
with apnea. My current heath insurance covers any doctor in Europe.

regards,

Vienna

I used to suffer from severe obstructive sleep apnoea, 67.5 AHI, but had surgery at the maxillofacial institute in Barcelona in November. I had the results of a sleep study in December and I now have ZERO apnoeas an hour. I have posted Before and After pictures in the Overbites section. I had CCW bimaxillary and genioplasty. My doctor, Dr Hernández Alfaro, is brilliant and I am so happy that I no longer need CPAP.

You want to make sure that whoever does it is familiar with MMA+CCW. MMA is usually an aesthetifc disaster.

Sorry if im asking something that has been overed before; MMA, that is bimax advancement usually doesnt look good? Thats the thinking behind this please? Do you meam the "chimp" look? Or is it because most people with recessed jaws should have a "high" lefort 1 or something like this? Or is it only the addation of CCW that you have in mind?
Thanks

@ molestrip - what do you mean by MMA?

for sleep apnea wouldn't you need to more the upper jaw forward with the CCW rotation?

Yes a CCW+MMA involves moving the upper jaw forward with CCW rotation and BSSO of the mandible to meet it. There's a nice comparison here. Case varies by individual. Some amount of protrusion is unavoidable in many cases.
