Effect on jaw movements on the eyes

I think it is important to always consider the effect on jaw surgery on the eyes. Moving the upper jaw forward would give the cheeks more soft tissue support, but at the same time as the soft tissue fills out the cheeks it also will pull the soft tissue away from the eyes, making them appear hollow. Not sure if this is common knowledge within these boards, but always something to consider.



i am not sure what to consider my eyes post surgery - they do not look hollow. maybe the are in the youthful realm?

Hmm, I didn't know this.  My eyes already are kind of hollow.  I wonder how the effect changes with Lefort I vs a high lefort I.

I had my upper jaw advanced forward 6mm to correct a slight underbite, my eyes have now become hollow, if I reversed this, put my jaw back to its original position, would my eyes go back to fuller? Or will they remain hollow?

how long ago did you have your surgery?

did you have your upper jaw impacted at all or was it just advanced straightforward?

Had it moved forward only, 4 years ago, yes is a separation when smile from rims and eye muscles..

Interesting. So it's not exclusive to vertical growth cases, for some of us the entire upper face is just underdeveloped.

Bummer to hear it doesn't get corrected tho

it makes sense that your face got longer with a linear advancement

but what do you mean 'face was fuller'? flat, sunken in faces are a defining characteristic of class iii's where the deformity is in the maxilla, seems that should've gotten better not worse
