Out of pocket for double jaw surgery with everything included (surgery fees, hospital, anesthesia, post-op medication)...

Average is ~55k.

And if your out of state you'll probably need accommodations for minimum of 3 weeks so include that too.

Cool, cheers. If he's as good as everyone say's he is, then it will be easily worth every dollar just to do it once and be happy with the result for the rest of the my life

A consultation at the A/G office is $250 in case you were wondering about that as well, and they require current impressions of your teeth beforehand.

I'm sure you researched before having your surgery... Do you happen to know how most folks pay for their surgeries with A/G?  I've read multiple times that insurance will cover negligible amounts with them if anything.  Is it kind of a "wealthy only" club with them?  I can't imagine any companies providing loans in that amount...

I don't think insurance covers anything as they are not "in network" with any providers as I understand it.  So nobody, American or not, gets insurance coverage with them.  The part I don't understand is that maybe insurance will cover other parts related to the surgery (i.e. hospital stay, anesthesia)?  But when I spoke to support staff of another surgeon, she said if the surgeon's fees aren't covered by insurance then none of it will be.  So IDK about that part.

My insurance covered my hospital stay and anesthesia on the bat. I'm not expecting my insurance to cover the rest but one can still hope. My claims have been submitted and just waiting on what they decide. I paid $55k.

I am forty minutes south of Dr. Gunson in Santa Barbara and need to get a double jaw surgery for overbite correction, but as a student the 55K fee is nigh impossible for me to afford. He is definitely a great surgeon but I am shocked that so many people on here can afford a 55k out of pocket, up front fee for the surgery. Is there any possibility that our own insurance network could compensate us, if we prove it is negatively effecting our health and a necessary procedure for our health and well being? American health care coverage really bites the bullet sometimes..

Your best bet might be to go to a consultation, get the plans/xrays/pictures/whatever, and then consult with a surgeon with reasonable prices and compare treatment ideas.  This is the route I may go, as a surgery with these guys would cost me about my annual salary and well beyond anything i have in savings.  It's simply not an option.

Yeah I hear you, I just wish there was a way for people in our position to be able to get it done. You really don't want to take chances in expertise and experience when something morphs your entire face, and the risk inherint with this kind of surgery.
